New Lens Canon 85mm f/1.4 - New Camera Mark IV
Updated: Jan 18
There has to come a point where you just have to upgrade your old equipment and it's not just to keep up with the industry, on our journey together my camera endured so many bumps and bruises that variety of things started to fall off of it and the automatic focus as completely non existent and it was more work trying to get a good shot than actually setting up the shoot and no matter how much I tried to hold on it just wasn't working or producing the quality of work I needed.
So what do I do when I need quality equipment, visit one of my very favourite sites out there bhphotovideo.com. B&H photo, they have been around for over 40 years and is an authorized seller of most major equipment brands. I love them for their variety and I just feel safe using them, I had one hiccup before with some reflectors but i've used them a lot so their rating is still a high score with me. They also have a used equipment section if you are trying to get into using some equipment without breaking the bank, that has a good collection of equipment to sift through.I even got to visit the store on my visit last year to New York and it was A LOT, but in a good way and the little machine running around delivery equipment was the absolute coolest.
Amazon.com also has a good variety of equipment and a good track record with me and my purchases as another option for those that are more familiar with this method rater than the other B&H.
Now on to what I bought.
My overall goal with the gear I bought, specifically my lens, was to add an additional lens that can make the process of portraits better, more efficient and overall more beautiful in every type of lighting situation and the Canon 85mm f/1.4 does not disappoint. Images are sharp it's an overall efficient lens, it has a weather seal but let's guess who paid enough money not to test it out.. tuh, it also has beautiful bokeh for portraits which helps isolate the subject from a distracting background with image stability which allows for great usage while the camera is handheld.
I haven't upgraded my camera in a while and after using my Mark for a few years eventually its focus stopped working and things started to fall off of it I had no choice but to upgrade and I invested in the 5D Mark IV and I would say it does continue on the Canon legacy and makes me proud to boast that it is the only camera brand that I ever owned only one that I will ever own.. and that's on periodt pooh!
The camera has 30 MP sensor and 6+ image processor for fine details and resolution in low light and sensitivity with a improved handling grip. Responsive touchscreen, 4k video capture which for a novice and someone who has been trying to convince themselves to film themselves again is good for me. It has the same 61 point AF system as the Mark III but with an expanded vertical coverage and it is very intelligent and tracks subjects quite well. Still wish I could get my tilt screen especially for when i'm doing a self portrait or video and protection of the screen but they aren't giving into the demands of their consumer here at all.
